Albana

Chiesetta di Santo Spirito

The hill that rises to the west of the settlement of Albana was an ancient place of defense and worship, as the tower still testifies today, later transformed into a bell tower in the sixteenth century.

The historian Tarcisio Venuti hypothesizes that there was an ancient chapel from the 12th–13th centuries, renovated and incorporated into the tower in 1450. The body of the nave is rectangular with exposed trusses; the presbytery has a groin vault with four sails divided by ribs. The head sail is frescoed with a “Christ in the mandorla” between two angels, of fifteenth‑century origin. The wooden altar, of seventeenth‑century style, has an altarpiece depicting the Eternal Father, a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, and Christ with Saint Roch and Saint Joseph at the sides.
