Sorzento

Chiesetta di San Nicolò

Built in 1498 on the top of a hill reachable from the hamlet of Sorzento via an easy path through meadows and orchards. The two stone pinnacles make the entrance elegant; from here you can observe the four angels painted under the arches. At the back of the rectangular nave there is a stone and marble altar, with a fine altarpiece painted by Girolamo Ridolfi in 1577: it depicts the Madonna with the Child surrounded by Saints Nicholas, Blaise, and Margaret. Note two beautiful processional crosses from the 16th and 17th centuries and two crucifixes.
